Three Problems You May Have With Your Lash Extensions, And How To Solve Them

Lash extensions can make you look sophisticated and put together. It's nice to wake up every morning and not have to put on mascara and lots of eyeliner to call attention to your eyes. However, there are some problems and difficulties you might come across when wearing lash extensions. Most of them are rather easy to solve. Here's a look.

Fixing Sticking or Clumping Eyelashes

If your lash extensions are beginning to look like you've applied clumpy mascara — or in other words, the individual strands are clumping and sticking together — that can indicate several underlying issues. Your salon tech may not have applied all of the lashes at precise 90-degree angles to your eyelid, which is causing some of them to twist over each other. You could also have partially dislodged some of the lashes by sleeping on your face or rubbing your eyes. They have not completely fallen off, but they're starting to detach and getting stuck on the other lashes.

The best option here is often to go back to the salon and let your lash tech remove the loose or poorly angled lashes. They can replace them with new ones, giving you the semi-natural look you desire.

Avoiding Lashes Falling Out

You may have heard that getting false eyelashes will ruin your natural lashes. This is really just a myth. False lashes should actually protect and keep your natural lashes in good shape if they're applied properly. If your natural lashes are falling out, then ask your lash tech to go a little lighter on the application the next time so there's not so much weight on your lash line. Also, start applying a lash strengthening serum to your lash line every night. It will provide your lashes with the nutrients they need to grow back stronger and longer.

Solving Eye Irritation

If your eyelid becomes inflamed and irritated within a day or two of having your lashes applied, you're probably sensitive to the adhesive. In most cases, if you take an antihistamine and wait another day or two, the irritation will subside. Talk to your tech about using a milder adhesive during your next appointment.

If inflammation and swelling arise after your lashes have been in place for a few days, this could be due to an eye infection. You can get an eye infection with or without false lashes, unfortunately. See your doctor; they can prescribe antibiotic drops. They may recommend having your lashes removed until the infection clears up, just because this makes inserting the eye drops easier.

If you are thinking about getting lash extensions, talk with a lash tech like those at Citrine Skin and Lash Spa about your extensions.
