Do your feet look cracked and feel rough? If you spend a lot of time standing or walking on your feet, they may not feel soft or look good. If you would like to have feet that look healthy, smooth, and beautiful, you should practice a few self-care tips at home and remember to treat yourself to a pedicure at the nail salon from time to time.

Start Using a Foot File

If your feet are feeling rough, you may have calluses. When you have calluses on your feet, the skin feels thick and hard rather than soft and smooth. One way to eliminate calluses would be to start using a foot file at least once a week, but you may need to use the foot file a bit more often in the beginning to get rid of all that dead skin. It is always better to use a foot file on dry skin rather than wet skin. Electronic foot files are available that are gentle on the skin yet effective at quickly and carefully removing the dead skin from the feet.

Apply Petroleum Jelly to the Feet

Using petroleum jelly is an easy and affordable way to moisturize your feet. Apply a generous amount of the petroleum jelly to the bottom of each foot, rubbing it in, and then wrapping it with plastic wrap before putting a pair of socks on top. The plastic wrap keeps the petroleum jelly from getting all over your socks and gives the petroleum jelly more time to soak into your feet. It is something you would need to do regularly to see results, but in just a few days, you may start to feel a significant improvement as the bottom of your feet become much smoother than before.

Get a Pedicure at the Nail Salon

If you have the extra money to spend at the salon, consider visiting a local nail salon to get a pedicure. Not only will you get to soak your feet in soothing warm water, but you will also get to have your feet filed, exfoliated, and massaged by a nail tech. In addition to making your feet feel a lot smoother, the nail technician could enhance the look of your feet by trimming your toenails and painting them with a color of your choice.

When your feet are feeling rough and dry, you should start filing them regularly while using petroleum jelly at night as a way to hydrate and moisturize the feet. Aside from these simple at-home methods to getting softer feet, you should think about going to the nail salon for a pedicure where you can have your feet filed and massaged while having your toenails cut and polished.
